01Genetics and epigenetics: the two levers of healthy aging.

Longevity consultation

Longevity means healthy long life. The precondition is aging well, and both genetics and epigenetics play a major role.

Physician and patient in a trusting conversation at the practice

Genetics (heritability): genetic predisposition is set by DNA and directly affects lifespan. Specific genes are associated with longevity; genetic factors can elevate risk for cardiovascular disease, cancer and neurodegenerative disease.

Epigenetics (gene expression): epigenetics determines whether genes are switched on or off, without changing the DNA sequence itself. Lifestyle factors such as nutrition, movement and stress drive epigenetic changes, and many of these are reversible. Epigenetics can act as a genuine game-changer on our health.
